Tivy Choir Students Earn Region Spots

Nov. 14, 2023 – Almost a dozen Tivy High School choir students earned spots in two different Texas Music Educators Association Region 29 choirs recently.

Students earning spots in the TMEA All-Region Mixed Choir include Alvin Mata, Bass 1; and Cooper Pruitt, Tenor 1.

Students earning spots in the TMEA All-Region Treble Choir include Vanessa Adair, Soprano 2; Zoey Adair, Soprano 1; Valentina Aleman, Soprano 1; Josslyn Collazo, Soprano 2; Ally Dorado, Alto; Alana Fox, Soprano 2; Abigayle Maloney, Soprano 1; Liliana Torrez, Soprano 1; Hailey Van Nostrand, Soprano 2.

Students earning spots then got to participate in a two-day clinic with a guest conductor that culminated in a concert earlier this month.

“The opportunity afforded by our students to learn from outstanding clinicians, music educators, and their peers from other high schools is instrumental to their long-term success as choral musicians whether they choose to pursue music as a career or hobby throughout life,” said Tivy Director of Choral Music Seth Lafler.

“I love watching how they work and interact with each other, and the others mentioned above, as they become a choir in just a few short hours of rehearsal.”

To earn spots in these choirs, students spent many hours practicing given material for auditions.
