Nov. 2, 2023 – Four Tivy High School students earned spots in the Texas Music Educators Association Region 29 Orchestra and will get to participate in a clinic and concert next month.
Senior Catie Painter earned 8th chair on string bass; senior Jesus Guzman earned 28th chair on violin; senior Isabella Barker earned 44th chair on violin; and freshman Reese Schwartz earned 20th chair on violin.
“Students who compete independently work extremely hard on the repertoire for quite some time,” said Jennifer Clark, Director or Orchestras at Tivy High School.
“We do learn some of it in class and I try to give them some practice time in school, but we are learning different music literature for concerts and our own group competitions. Therefore, they spend many hours practicing at home and working with their private instructors to prepare for these types of competitions.”
Students auditioned for a spot in the orchestra against other musicians from schools in the region in October.
Now these students will get to participate in the TMEA Region Orchestra Clinic, followed by a concert at Stevens High School in San Antonio on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 5 p.m.
