June 8, 2023 – Kerrville ISD will formally introduce the new principal at Hal Peterson Middle School during a regular Board of Trustees meeting on Monday, June 12.

Dr. Sonerka “Sonny” Mouton officially started in her role as principal on June 8 and was introduced to HPMS faculty and staff prior to the end of the school year.

“I am excited to welcome Dr. Mouton to the KISD family,” said Brent Ringo, KISD Superintendent. “Dr. Mouton brings valuable experience as a secondary principal with a focus on building relationships with students, staff and stakeholders. She has already started meeting with teachers at HPMS and we look forward to her leadership at Peterson.”

Dr. Mouton comes to KISD from Stafford Municipal School District, near the Houston area, where she was principal at Stafford Middle School for the past three years. Prior to that, Dr. Mouton served as an assistant principal in Katy ISD after beginning her career in education in Royal ISD as a Business Education teacher.

Dr. Mouton earned her doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Houston and also holds an MBA from Texas Southern University and a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Dillard University in New Orleans.

HPMS students and families will be able to meet Dr. Mouton during Spike Nights at HPMS on August 8 & 9 before the start of the new school year on Monday, August 14.
