Hal Peterson Middle School Formally Dedicated

Two years after breaking ground, the new Hal Peterson Middle School campus was formally dedication in a simple ceremony with about 100 people present on Sunday, Oct. 10, 2021.

Superintendent Mark Foust welcomed everyone and introduced the KISD Board of Trustees and other distinguished guests and elected officials in attendance.

Kerrville Mayor Bill Blackburn gave an invocation followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by Board Vice-President Jack Stevens.

HPMS Principal Tana Althaus gave a welcome speech in which she shared how excited students were to be in their new space, which makes them more comfortable to be in and focus on learning.

HPMS eighth grader Anthony Sanchez spoke about some of the students' favorite aspects of the new campus and what it means to them.

Board President Rolinda Schmidt read the proclamation, which was then signed by all in attendance. The proclamation will be framed and displayed on the campus.

After the ceremony, current HPMS students led tours through their campus.

The new campus sits on Loop 534, across from Tivy High School, and the newly extended Olympic Drive. The campus was part of the $89.9 million bond passed by voters in 2018. A groundbreaking was held in October 2019.

The campus currently houses seventh and eighth grades.
