Tivy Orchestra Musicians Claim Eight Region Spots

Kerrville, TX (Nov. 3, 2020) – Despite auditions being virtual this year due to COVID-19 safety concerns, eight Tivy High School musicians earned acceptance into the Texas Music Educators Association Region 29 Honor Orchestra last month.

The musicians include: Jackie Shim, Jimmy Shim, Jamie Lee, Alina McCormick, Ella O’Donnell and Josh Aspinall on violin; Dametrius Delgado on viola and Joshua Sutton on string bass.

Three musicians placed high enough to advance to the All-State audition: Jackie Shim, Jimmy Shim and Joshua Sutton.

“We are very proud of these students,” said Tivy Orchestra Director Pat Lee. “They have worked very hard and have earned this honor.”

These students practiced audition music of a high difficulty level before submitting a digital recording to be judged on Oct. 24. Lee said Region 29 is a very competitive region that includes several of the larger San Antonio school districts with larger orchestra programs.

The TMEA Convention will be virtual this year, but there are plans to allow All-State recipients the opportunity to perform virtually in the convention slated for February, Lee added.
