Mrs. Deborah (Debbie) Marusak
Before moving to Kerrville five years ago, and almost a year in Sunrise Beach to teach in Llano, I spent my whole life in Arlington, Texas. I attended Crow Elementary, Carter Jr. High, Sam Houston High School, and the University of Texas at Arlington for my graduate and undergraduate work. My first real job was working in the Texas section of Six Flags, alternating between a purple cowgirl outfit and a Mexican poncho and skirt in the Mexico section. The whistling portion of the theme song from The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, and the lively da-ta-da, da-ta-da, da-da-ta-da-ta-da Fiesta!! of the Mexican Train Ride along with its dancing tamales will forever make me simultaneously smile and cringe. But it was fun. I moved on to work for Minyard Food Stores, Inc. as an office clerk, district trainer and finally Corporate Training Specialist, for twenty-three years. The company was family owned like HEB, but smaller, and had no problem working with folks attending college classes. While there, I was happy, but not completely. I wanted to teach school. I began playing school as a small child, was overjoyed to get a brother on my ninth birthday bacause I had a real live student right there at home!
