History of ECC

Opening in 1996 as a Head Start campus with 72 children, we have evolved into a campus meeting the needs of over 300 preschool children. The ECC is comprised of five Head Start classrooms, five Pre-kindergarten classrooms, one Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities (PPCD) classroom and the Tivy Child Development Center.  KISD Early Childhood Center (ECC) is a developmentally appropriate early childhood campus providing a comprehensive approach to delivering services to children and families. Our goal is to promote school readiness by providing children and families with educational, health, nutritional, and social services.  By involving parents in decision making and providing links to needed community services, we strive to strengthen families in order that they, as the primary nurturers of their children, will promote academic and social excellence in their children.

Head Start is a Federal Program that serves four-year-old children and Pre-K is a state program that serves three and four-year-old children. Both programs serve low income children who turn 3 or 4 years old on or before September 1st of the enrolling school year. Income levels for qualification do differ for each program and the family must reside in the Kerrville ISD school boundaries. Applications for the current school year are taken on an ongoing basis and waiting lists may be maintained.
