Mrs. Cristy Sirls

My name is Cristy Kniffen Sirls.  I have been an elementary teacher for twenty five years.  I grew up in Andrews, TX as the child of two teacher,  I had always known that I wanted to become a teacher.  I attended college at Abilene Christian University where I earned my degree in Education.  I was able to complete my student teaching after moving to Everett, Washington for a year.  I then moved to Orange County CA where I began my teaching career.  I earned my Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instructin from University of Phoenix.  I was very fortunate to find my teaching home at Newhope Elementary School where I stayed for twenty years.  While there I taught sixth and fifth grade for 17 years before making a leap of faith into kindergarten for three years.  While I always saw myself as an upper grade teacher, I fell in love with my kindergarten class.

Four years ago, Texas called me home.  I made the move back to be closer to family and to find a more peaceful pace of life.  I wanted my children to have the chance to grow up like I did and live the small town life.  I never dreamed I would follow in the footsteps of many of my family members and become the tennis coach in Menard.  This has been very exciting but also very demanding on me.  I am ready to re-focus on just teaching for awhile.  My oldest is now starting college at Schriner and now I’m ready to settle into my new home and school.

My classroom is my home away from home and where I want my students to feel comfortable.  I try to make it as warm and welcoming as possible with sounds, scents, and textures.  I want it to be a showcase of our learning.  I am excited to start a new chapter in my life.  I have enjoyed my time at each of my schools and with the many students who have come into my classroom.  I look forward to starting at  my new school home.
