Monday- BEST ME, DRUG FREE- WEAR RED

    Morning Announcement

Good morning! Did you know this week is Red Ribbon Week? Today, we are all celebrating- BEST ME, DRUG FREE! I hope all of you are wearing your red shirts! Red Ribbon week is a week dedicated to making mindful choices about how we treat others, and how we treat ourselves. Today we focus on: Respect Yourself. Respect Others. Respect is thinking and acting in a way that shows others you care about their feelings and their well-being. So, while all of us may be very different from one another, I think we all share one similarity: we want to be respected. However, to earn respect from others, you must show respect. What I want you all to think about today is how can you show respect for others…even when they may be different from us. Because at Hal Peterson, we respect ourselves and we respect others!

    Morning Meeting Ideas/Topics

We are all different from one another, but we all like to be respected. What are some ways you can show respect to others? (Students can role play how they would respectfully greet others, respectfully disagree with others, etc.)

What can you do if you see that someone is not being respectful of others?

What do I do if I feel disrespected by someone?

If we want to be respected, it important that we show respect to others.

Tuesday- STAY MILITARY STRONG AGAINST DRUGS- WEAR CAMO

Good morning! I hope all of you had some great discussions about being respectful, yesterday. Today is STAY MILITARY STRONG AGAINST DRUGS-WEAR CAMO. True heroes stay drug free! National Red Ribbon Week celebration pays tribute to a real hero! DEA Special Agent Enrique S. “Kiki” Camarena was also a former cop and U.S. Marine who was killed while trying to stop drug trafficking in the United States.

Today, I would like you to think about some ways you can stay strong against drugs and encourage your friends to do the same.

Wednesday- BOOT OUT DRUGS, WEAR BOOTS

    Morning Announcements

Good morning! I hope everyone had a great time learning about the history of Red Ribbon Week yesterday and that true heroes stand up against drug and alcohol usage! But today, we are wearing our BOOTS- to Boot Out DRUGS!

Every day we have the option to make good choices or to follow the crowd. Do you have the courage to stand up for yourself? Making good choices shows that you respect yourself. Let’s make the choice today to BE A LEADER AND BOOT OUT DRUGS!

    Morning Meeting Ideas/Topics

“Drugs” is a catch-all term that may mean different things to different people. Technically defined, a drug is any substance that changes the way the brain and body work. Often, we differentiate between harmful substances and helpful medicines; sometimes, we forget that substances like alcohol, tobacco, vapes, prescription and over-the-counter medications are also categorized as drugs.

The human brain continues to develop until about 25. Regular use of drugs (including alcohol, tobacco, vaping) is associated with decreased motivation and drive.

Thursday- SHADE OUT DRUGS-WEAR YOUR FAVORITE HAT

    Morning Announcements

Good morning! I hope everyone had a great time discussing how to BE A LEADER! Today we are wearing our hats to shade out drugs and make good choices. Every day, we all have to make lots of choices. Many times, our choices can impact others, so that is why it is important for us to make good choices. Plus, each choice we make, has a big impact on what happens to us. Today, I would like all of you to think about why it is important to make good choices. Also, when you are thinking about the importance of good choices, think about how your choices today could affect what happens to you later in life. Remember, when we make good choices, we are in control of ourselves.

    Morning Meeting Ideas/Topics

Have students brainstorm how they know if a choice is a good choice vs. a not so good choice.

Have students come up with good choices to handling different scenarios. Some scenario suggestions are:

    · You witness a group of students being mean to someone

    · Someone is spreading rumors about another student

    · Someone is being left out at recess

    · You have homework to do, but you want to go outside to play with a friend

    · Your friend is talking in class while the teacher is talking

    · Someone offers to share their lunch with you at school

    · You and your friend get into an argument and you are really mad at them

    · You find something that belongs to someone else

Friday- LIVING DRUG FREE IS NO SWEAT-WEAR SWEATPANTS/ATHLETIC PANTS

Good morning! I was so excited to see so many great choices being made yesterday! I know all of you will keep up the great work. Remember, it is important that we keep our own minds in charge so that we can keep making good choices. Do you have your workout clothes on? I hope so, because today we are going to talk about making healthy choices for our bodies. Did you know that it is important that you get about 10 hours of sleep each night?! Did you know that you should get about 1 hour of exercise each day?! Did you know that we should eat lots of fruits, vegetables, proteins, dairy, and grain each day?! Did you know that we should stay away from harmful things like cigarettes if we want to keep our bodies healthy?! Yes, each of these are very important to keeping our bodies healthy. It is important that we not only make good choices about our actions and behavior, but we must also make good choices about what we do for our bodies. We only have one body, so we need to take good care of it.

    Morning Meeting Ideas/Topics

Have students discuss what it means to make healthy choices for our bodies.

Have students name a healthy or unhealthy choice and any students who have also made that choice move.

*Review the point of red ribbon week was to respect ourselves and others by making good and healthy choices. Have students share about a respectful choice they made this week. What does it mean to be respectful to ourselves? How can we show respect for others the rest of the year?
