Mr. Armando Garza

My name is Armando Garza and I'm extremely excited and humbled to be your child's math teacher and/or coach.  This is my 13th year of teaching.  I began my teaching career at Edcouch-Elsa High School.  My previous experience has been at Edcouch-Elsa High School, Carlos F Truan Middle School, Mercedes High School  and Hal Peterson Middle School.  This will be my second year teaching and coaching at Hal Peterson MS.  I've been given the opportuinity to teach many math classes that range from 7th grade math to University of Texas OnRamps Precaluclus and everything in between.

My math teaching philosophy is pretty simple; Math is a fun game once we undrestand the rules.  We often think of math as only a rigid set of rules that we use to solve everyday problems in this world, and part of that is absolutely true.  But math is more about knowing when to use these rigid sets of rules, and using these rules to make sense and solving the many problems we face in ouir lives and world.

My coaching philosphy is also pretty simple; Talk less, work more.  I do believe that there is value in expressing your goals and to speak boldly because it allows us to take ownership of our goals.  But it is definelty way more important to work and work some more because talking only shows you the path to your destination, but working gets you to your destination.

I know that the 2020-2021 school year will be a school year we may never experience again, and we will have to jump hurdles, some small and some really big.  Here at Hal Peterson Middle School, we have a famous syaing, "Spike Fight Never Die!".  I know that we will simply fight through all this and come out victorious at the end of the day.
