Degrees and Certifications:
Hi, my name is Desirae Alaniz and I have the privilege of being a part of Hal Peterson Middle School this year. After spending four years teaching high school English in the valley, I am excited to share my philosophy in the Kerrville area. I have a B.A. in Criminal Justice/English and an M.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies. I am currently teaching 8th grade reading and English. Some of my hobbies include reading, cooking, staying active, and star gazing. I also love spending time with my family, doing indoor and outdoor activities.
Growing up, I have always enjoyed learning inside and outside of school. In particular, I was most interested in my English courses. I enjoyed them because literacy allows us to connect to others and expand our knowledge about real life situations. I believe that literacy is the key to overall success. Without literacy in our world, we would not be where we are today. I want to teach my students to become better readers and writers. My goal is to provide students with as much knowledge as I can. I want to help them succeed, regardless of their initial ability or interest in reading. In my class, I will provide a variety of tools to supplement learning for all students.
