Associates of Applied Science in Respiratory Therapy
Mrs. Shelley Papesca
My career background is in medicine. I have been a Registered Respiratory Therapist since 1998 and worked in the Dallas County Hospital- Parkland Hospital. During my 8 years of employment there I worked in the trauma/surgical ICU, as well as, the burn, medicine, cardiac, and neuro ICU. I truly enjoyed my time at Parkland and felt it afforded me some amazing experiences and a strong foundation in my medical career.
My Career ended at Parkland when my family and I moved to Nashville, TN where my husband was given a wonderful job opportunity. After moving there I decided to shift the scope of my practice to working solely with newborns in the Neonatal ICU at Centennial Women's Hospital. I found this job to be exciting, challenging, and rewarding as I worked with a new demographic of patient population.
Times and economies ever changing as they are, my family and I were, yet again, afforded another wondreful job opportunity for my husband here int he Texas Hill Country. Upon moving here I decided to explore different areas of the medical profession away from the bedside. Needless to say, I did not enjoy it as much as I hoped. I came across the chance to work at Tivy High School as an Inclusion Aide for the Special Education Department in teh classroom and truly found a new joy. I realized I loved working with students. After working there for a couple of years I was delighted to be offered a teaching position as the second teacher in Tivy's growing Health Science program. I am truly excited to be able to fuse the two loves that I have been blessed to be apart of in my career life.
