Welcome to my page! I have been a teacher for 13 years, the last 8 here at Tivy. I teach Health Science Theory and Clinical and also CNA (Certified Nurse Assistant) and EKG Certification. I received my BS in Interdisciplinary Studies from Lamar University - Beaumont in 1993. I taught 1st, 2nd, and 5th grades prior to teaching high school. In 2007, I returned to school, this time Schreiner, where I received my LVN certificate. I keep my nursing skills current each summer by working for KISD's elementary summer school, in a local doctor's office and occasionally at the Texas Lion's Camp.
I am an active member of THOA (Texas Health Occupations Association), a member/sponsor for the Tivy Chapter of HOSA (Future Health Professionals) and I am BLS, Stop the Bleed and Crase certified as well as being a certified CPR instructor for the American Heart Association. I am a member and campus representative for ATPE (Association of Texas Professional Educators). Additionally, I serve the campus and district on numerous committees and I am the Career and Technical Education Department Chair.
I have been married to my high school crush, Keith, for 30 years and we have one daughter, Amber, who attends Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family (and our 2 dogs and 2 cats), crafting, and reading. My recharge zone is the BEACH!
Teaching Health Science at Tivy is my DREAM JOB! It combines the two careers I am most passionate about - teaching and healthcare. I am fortunate to live and work in the beautiful Hill Country. I love to encourage students to find their calling as a healthcare professional and share with them the many exciting paths one can follow. Come join us and see what opportunities await you in healthcare!
