Mrs. Maggie Portillo

Welcome! Welcome! Welcome!  I was born, an army brat, not too far from here in Fort Hood, TX.  I graduated from University of Texas - Permian Basin with a BA in Language Arts and Reading, as well as an additional certificate in Speech.  I taught in West Texas for 12 years before moving to Kerrville.  This is now my 16th year of teaching and every year feels new.  I am so excited for the new school year and opportunity to work with each and every one of your children. I am married to Michael Portillo and a mom to two amazing children - one in high school (Caleb), the other in junior high (Makaya).  In addition to teaching, I work with youth at Notre Dame Catholic Church.  I teach Academic English II, PreAP English II and enjoy working as the sponsor of Cheer for Tivy.   I have taught senior English, sophomore English, AVID and embedded Speech curriculum. I have spent time over the years as a junior class sponsor/prom organizer, sophomore class sponsor, and cheer sponsor.  It seriously seems like yesterday when I began this journey.  I love leading students, challenging them to be better than their best, and encouraging them to reach their full potential.  I am truly passionate about my job and all of the lives that you entrust to me each day.  I am so proud to work in a district where teachers enjoy collaboration, receive constant support from parents, administration and the district, and where student achievement is always our goal.
