CIS - Communities in Schools
Communities In Schools of San Antonio (CIS‑SA) is a nonprofit organization that works directly inside schools to help students overcome challenges that impact their ability to learn and stay engaged. Its mission is to surround students and families with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. CIS‑SA places full‑time Site Coordinators on campuses, providing individualized support such as academic assistance, mental health counseling, attendance improvement, access to social services, and family engagement resources tailored to each student’s needs.
Already embedded within the district, Marisa serves as a District Site Coordinator supporting Kerrville students and families through CIS‑SA’s relationship‑based model. Before joining the Kerrville district, Marisa served as a Site Coordinator at a high school on the West Side of San Antonio, where she built strong, supportive connections with students and their families helping link them to needed resources. A Kerrville native and proud Tivy High School graduate, she is grateful and excited to be working in the community that helped shape who she is today. Marisa is committed to CIS‑SA’s belief that while programs offer structure, it is caring, consistent relationships that make the greatest difference in helping students stay in school and thrive. She looks forward to continuing strong partnerships with district staff, families, and community members to ensure every student feels supported and capable of success.
