Textbook Review Process

Kerrville ISD uses a proven process for evaluating potential new instructional materials. Academic Excellence Committees comprised of teachers and administrators first reviewed materials either online or received in hard copy format. Committee members look for materials that are most closely aligned to the state’s curriculum, the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, or TEKS.

The Texas Constitution, Article VII, Section 3, requires the State Board of Education set aside sufficient money to provide free textbooks for all children attending public schools in the state. In accordance with this requirement, the SBOE allocates a portion of the Available School Fund, which comprises money set aside by the state from various revenue sources for the support of the public school system. The Texas Legislature appropriates the funds for instructional materials.

Parents or community members with questions, comments or feedback on instructional materials are encouraged to contact Julee Broscoff, Interim Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, at 257-2200, ext. 1020, or by email using the button below.

Instructional materials are just one of the vital tools used in lesson creation.  In Kerrville ISD, teachers are the essential part of the instructional materials selection process.

Kerrville ISD 6-12 Social Studies Adoption – Community Preview

The State Board of Education (SBOE) issued Proclamation 2015 at its April 2013 meeting to call for social studies, grades K–12 instructional materials. The instructional materials underwent a Quality Review Process through the Texas Resource Review (TRR) at the state level. For more information about TRR, please visit https://texasresourcereview.org/. The TRR was created by and for Texas educators to provide quality reviews that are independent, objective, comprehensive, and Texas focused. Based on this review, the SBOE published the list of materials available for adoption. KISD has been utilizing SBOE approved materials since the 2015-2016 school year.  KISD’s purchases have expired, and the Instructional Materials Committee is re-reviewing available materials from the SBOE published list of state approved resources.  The KISD Instructional Materials Committee which consists of KISD’s highly qualified teachers from every campus spent the 2024-2025 school year previewing materials for adoption from the SBOE list and will recommend the materials listed below for approval from the KISD Board of Trustees on May 19, 2025.

All adopted materials will go into classrooms in the 2025–26 school year.
