Credit by Examination
Kerrville ISD offers students in kindergarten through 12th grade the opportunity to earn credit by examination in subject areas through exams aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). In order to ensure standardization and objectivity, KISD uses examinations provided through Texas Tech University or the University of Texas.
Students in grades K-5 may accelerate a full grade level by successfully taking exams in math, science, social studies, and language arts. Secondary students may accelerate in a single subject area or in multiple subject areas. Students must meet all passing criteria.
To be eligible for this opportunity, students must be enrolled in the district, have no prior instruction at the grade level and subject being assessed, and student records must indicate a high probability of success. In addition, a district representative must recommend the student be accelerated and the student’s parent or guardian must give written approval of the acceleration.
