New Hal Peterson Middle School Principal Search
The newly hired principal of Hal Peterson Middle School will have a unique opportunity to lead the opening of a new campus that will open in August, 2021. The school is designed with “academic houses” which serve math and science, humanities, and electives. The library is the hub of the humanities house and includes a maker space and a second-floor outdoor learning deck featuring stellar views of the Hill Country. Art classrooms share the learning deck and will provide a backdrop for creativity.
The performance arts are well taken care of in the fine arts house. A band hall, ensemble practice room, choir room, orchestra room, and black box theater that are located adjacent to the school’s stage. A common area in the fine arts wing serves as a hub for students to gather and learn.
The Special Education Life Skills house is purposefully placed at the center of the building to ensure students have convenient access to all areas of the campus. The "Spike Bucks" Coffee shop, operated by the Life Skills class, is located in the main commons area across from the cafeteria.
Student athletes will enjoy two gymnasiums, a weight room, 6 tennis courts, an artificial turf football field with 8 lane track and field event areas, a press box, and a concession stand with bathrooms.
The new building was designed with the district Profile of a Graduate and Instructional Standards in mind. Kerrville ISD strives to provide highly engaging classrooms and learning spaces in which students will become creative and critical thinkers who can communicate and collaborate in positive and effective ways.
The campus will change the paradigm of how teachers teach and how students learn in Kerrville.
