Coach Smithson

Hi! My name is Coach Smithson, and I am so excited to be your PE teacher! This will be my 6th year coaching PE but my 1st year coaching at Tally Elementary and I couldn’t be prouder to be a Tally Eagle. I am a graduate of Texas A&M University, where I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in marketing. My husband, Josh, and I have been married for almost 19 years and have 4 beautiful children, 2 of which are here at Tally with me. All 4 of my kids are very active and love playing sports. Most of my free time is spent either coaching them or cheering them on at their various sporting events. When I am not doing that however, I love reading, working out, traveling, and hanging out with family and friends.

As a Physical Education teacher for elementary school students, I have the unique privilege to work with every single student from Kindergarten through 5th grade. This is honestly one of the things I love most about my job. As a former athlete, some of the most valuable life lessons I have learned over the years have been in and around a sports court. Teamwork, leadership, integrity, confidence, and good sportsmanship are just a handful of the character traits I developed through PE and sports when I was little that have carried with me over the years and have helped to shape me into the person that I am today.

I could not be more excited for this upcoming school year!  There is no other place I would rather be than the gym. My hope is that PE will be my students’ favorite 50 minutes each day. I want the gym to be a place where everyone feels like they belong. Whether they have played sports their entire life or have never picked up a ball, it doesn’t matter. I want PE to be a place where students can be themselves, try new things, build confidence, learn the importance of teamwork, and discover new skills/talents that maybe they didn’t know they had. In PE, I want the focus to be on learning, not performing. I want every student to put forth their best effort. Success is going to look different for everyone.  Regardless of what sport we may be learning or activity we may be doing, at the end of class I want my students to be able to walk out of the gym with their heads held high, proud of their efforts and, most importantly, with a smile on their faces.

There is nothing more important to me than relationships. One of the things I love most about my job is the opportunity I have to build relationships with not only my students but their families as well. We are all in this together. I want to partner with you, parents, in order to best support your child. Please know that I value your feedback and want to have an open line of communication throughout the year. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you might have. You may email me at sally.smithson@kerrvilleisd.net or call me at 830-257-2222.

Parents, thank you for entrusting me with your most prized possessions. Teaching your children is not a responsibility I take lightly. I’m looking forward to this school year and soaring to new heights with my Tally Eagles.
