Three KISD Teachers Name “Teacher Of The Month’
Ranch Radio and Kerrville Daily Times Surprise Winners

KRNH 92.3 radio personalities Michelle Williams and J.D. Rose, along with  J.R. Fitch from the Kerrville Daily Times Newspapers in Education department, surprised three Kerrville Independent School District (KISD) teachers on Wednesday, February 13th with framed awards, certificates for dinner, and gifts for students as part of their “Teacher of the Month” program.

The local appreciation program encourages students to nominate their teachers through published applications in the Kerrville Daily Times.  The nomination form requires students to briefly state why their teacher deserves this award.

Three KISD teachers were selected in February and include Denese Stephenson, 1st Grade Teacher at Tom Daniels Elementary School.  Mrs. Stephenson was nominated by first grader Samuel Beaver.  On the Hal Peterson Middle School campus, eighth grade English teacher Rosemarie Villarreal was selected.  She was nominated by student Anell Sanchez.  The third recipient of the award was art instructor Bridget Putnam at Tivy High School.  Mrs. Putnam was nominated by Tivy senior Thomas Jobe.

The Tivy High School Mock Trial team won the regional title with a 5-0 record. They will head to state in Dallas, March 6th - 8th. The competition if sponsored by the Dallas Bar Association.

U.S. ARMY ALL-AMERICAN BOWL SELECTS
TIVY HIGH SCHOOL STANDOUT LINEBACKER KYLE PRATER  -  Prater Earns Elite Status

Kerrville, TX (November 28, 2007) – Kyle Prater of Tivy High School, Kerrville, TX has been selected to play in the 2008 U.S. Army All-American Bowl, the premier high school football game that connects the strengths of the nation’s top players with those of Army Strong Soldiers. Prater will join an elite group of student-athletes selected to play in the eighth annual U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. This classic East vs. West match-up will be televised live on NBC at 1:00 PM EST and will feature the nation’s top 84 high school football players. >> read more


Tivy High School's Air Force Junior ROTC Color Guard Tivy High School's Air Force Junior ROTC Color Guard placed first at the 6th Annual Cornfield Classic Color Guard Competition held in Medina Valley High School in Castroville on Oct. 13th. In only their second drill competition ever, and first this year, the Tivy Golden Antlers received the 1st place trophy in the Mixed Color Guard category. Other schools participating in the competition of JROTC teams included San Antonio John Jay, San Antonio Judson, San Antonio Clark, and Cypress Ridge from Houston.

Members of the Tivy Golden Antlers Color Guard: Jeffrey Cullen, Laura Grasshoff, Matthew Robbins, and Christopher Conley. The color guard is under the direction of Master Sergeant Jim Mangiafico. The color guard will compete again in December at John Jay High School in San Antonio.

The Tivy High School mascots have hearts even bigger than their oversized heads, but underneath pounds of fur and fabric, their giganitic hearts still shine through!  The 2007 Scrappy’s serve their team and school with pride and, if you could actually see their real eyes, you would see the seriousness behind them.
