Talent On Display At Tivy High School
Annual Student Art Contest Impresses Judges
On Friday, February 22nd, the Tivy High School Library looked like a contemporary art museum as bookshelves and tables held eighty-eight student works of art. For the 33rd year, the high school art department, under the direction of art teacher Bridget Putnam, organized the annual Tivy Artist Hall of Fame. Tivy High School students were invited to submit up to two original works of art and Tivy faculty and staff was also encouraged to participate.
Classroom projects from Mrs. Putnam’s art classes provided many of the entries. Entered for judging were watercolor, oil, mixed media, acrylic and oil paintings, digital color and black and white photography, woodblock prints, and other genres of creative works. Three guest judges spent a morning evaluating, then ranking, each piece of artwork to determine the overall winners.
The winners of the 2008 Tivy Artists Hall of Fame are:
1st place – Jonathan Griffin (Sophomore), Acrylic Painting titled “Zooey Deschanel”
2nd place – David Selbo (Senior), Pencil Drawing entitled, “Ray Charles”
