PUBLISHING PARTNERS

Third grade students in Heather Likin’s class at Tom Daniels Elementary have partnered with Tivy High School students in Belinda Medellin’s  Digital Graphics and Animation  class to complete a storybook.

In October, the third grade students paired up with a high school illustrators and shared their story ideas in the Daniels library.  Children read their stories to the teens and together they talked about ideas to create the illustrations to compliment their stories.

After two weeks of work, the Tivy High School students were ready to share some of their illustrations with the young authors.  Taking a school bus to Tivy High the third grade students enjoyed an hour in the lab where they reunited with their partners and witnessed how illustrations were created on the computer.

Working with Daniels Challenge Lab instructor Marilyn Mitchell, the partnership has been valuable to both third grade and high school students as each work toward completing a storybook.  Both stories and illustrations should be completed by December.

For more information, contact Challenge Lab instructor Marilyn Mitchell at DES, 257-2208 or Belinda Medellin at 257-2212.
