Minutes for February 2008

Debbie Vieau, PTO president, informed members about the recent H.E.B. Excellence in Education awards for KISD schools. Other items discussed were the upcoming dates for TAKS testing. Tutoring is now being offered to students. Letters to parents on TAKS tutoring have recently been mailed out. Dr. Jolly also discussed plans for a Career Center as an expansion to the counseling office. He reported that the counseling staff is now working on a master schedule for next fall with a goal of 100% first option and an average 20:1 class size ratio. Dianne Hodel, membership coordinator, is seeking volunteers for TAKS hall monitors. She will be setting-up a schedule for volunteers. The efforts of Carol Arnold, Scrappy Shack coordinator, and all store volunteers were applauded. A discussion was held on the allocation of funds from the school store. An updated report will be handed out during the May meeting. Project Graduation coordinators, Jeri Sprouse and Carole Tucker, together with Mirta Gonzalez, PTO treasurer, announced raising $13,000.00 to send students to Project Graduation. Upcoming fund-raising events have been scheduled: April 6th (golf tournament), April 19th (garage sale), and April 23rd (Waiter’s Night J-O Steakhouse). The PTO announced proposals for the 2008-2009 Board. All parents are welcome to attend the next meeting and volunteers for various positions are open. Next meeting: Wed. May 7th 8:00 room A-121. Minutes for February 2008

The Tivy PTO would like to report that the school store has been doing very well and the store committee headed by Carol Arnold will be seeking input from the Student Council on ideas for using the money earned this year in ways that will benefit all students. There are still many spots open for volunteers to help with the store. Prom date has been set for May 17th at Inn of the Hills. The theme will be “Paris”. Dr. Jolly presented the recently approved school calendar for 2008-2009. He also gave information regarding the changes in the athletic district. The following activities were announced: Project Graduation meeting—Feb. 18th 5:30 p.m., Parent Night Feb. 7th 6-7:30 (for pre-registration.) We encourage parents to attend the monthly meetings to support Project Graduation. There will be no PTO meeting during the month of March. The next meeting will be April 2, 2008 at 8:00 a.m. room A121.
