The mission of KISD’s Public and Media Relations Department is to provide all stakeholders with current news and information highlighting the many events, activities, successes, achievements, and programs across the district.  This mission is achieved through two levels of communication utilizing several media outlets including print, broadcast, radio, and web site. KISD is proud to highlight these valuable services:

Public Relations

• Coordinate ongoing activities that ensure the district’s strong public image is maintained.
• Initiate programs partnering with our local community, civic and charitable organizations, the Kerrville Public School Foundation, and local businesses such as School News Centers that keep the public informed of district happenings.
• Articulate the issues and ideas of the district.
• Serve campus Parent Teacher Organizations as needed  and offer direction for successful promotion of activities and events, and assist with newsletters, brochures, and media efforts.
• Collaborate with district personnel on special events and recognition celebrations.
• Manage the content of the district web site.
• Develop increased public awareness initiatives that spotlight the success of students, campuses, and KISD.
• Respond to inquiries and requests for information from all stakeholders and members of the news media.

Media Relations  

• Address media inquiries and facilitate media access to information.
• Disseminate news and information about KISD through direct press releases.
• Assist the district/campuses/departments with local media efforts including press releases, publications, newsletters, parent letters, event promotion, flyers, and photography or video recordings.
• Cablecast events, parent involvement programs, student projects, photographs and news slides on KEC-Channel 2.

KISD strives to help the media and community gain accurate and timely access to news and information, while strictly adhering to guidelines of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Emergency Communications

• In the event of an area disaster or emergency, district staff and the public can call the Public and Media Relations Department at (830)257-2200, ext. 233.
• Emergency information and updates are immediately available on the web and KISD’s educational cable television station, KEC-Channel 2.
