Time Capsule to be Opened

A rubber chicken, a VHS tape, and a newspaper from 2006.  What do all these things have in common?  They’re just a few of the items placed in the B.T. Wilson time capsule that was dedicated and sealed May 11, 2006.  The time capsule is set to be opened May 11, 2012; exactly six years to the day that the then sixth grade class at B.T. Wilson buried it.

“We’ve had it locked and in our display case in the foyer for the past six years waiting for this day,” James Harmon, principal at B.T. Wilson said.  “Some of the seniors at Tivy High School have stopped by over the past year asking about the opening of the time capsule.”

The time capsule was dedicated in honor of the first year on the new campus on Tivy Street, after the move from the old campus on Barnett back in 2006.  At the time of the dedication the date was planned for the time capsule to be opened during the then sixth graders senior year.  “Our current students are also very excited to see what is in the box and it should bring back a lot of memories for our graduating seniors,” Harmon said.  “We have a faculty committee working on all the details and in addition to current and past faculty and staff, we have also received word that Itasco Wilson, widow of the late B.T. Wilson, and other Wilson family members will be here to help us celebrate.”  Mrs. Wilson was also present in 2006 when the Time Capsule was dedicated.

The opening of the B.T. Wilson time capsule is set for Friday, May 11, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. in the B.T. Wilson cafeteria.
