Peterson Spikes Participate in Destination Imagination

Destination Imagination is an after-school program that offers students the opportunity to work in teams to solve mind-bending challenges and present their solutions at tournaments.  Teams are tested to think on their feet, work together, and devise original solutions that satisfy the requirements of the hands-on educational challenges.  Participants gain more than just basic knowledge and skills in a wide variety of subjects—they learn to unleash their imaginations and take unique approaches to problem solving.

Both of our Destination Imagination teams represented us proudly at the Central Texas Regional Tournament held in San Antonio.  They competed in the Improv Team Challenge and brought home 2nd and 3rd place awards!  The students had to create a 5-minute improvisational skit about the cause-and-effect relationship between two unrelated news stories.  To enhance the skit, they had to use human scenery and props and respond to a surprise element from the judges called a One-Minute-Glitch.

The entire experience provided opportunities for these students to be innovative, creative, self-confident and collaborative – traits that employers say they are looking for in the workforce of the future.  We’d like to recognize the following Spikes for their hard work and dedication.  The “D.I. Joe” team received 3rd place and included Gibby Badillo, Kianna Dao, Lindsey Ivey, Emma Hamilton, Kevin Maldonado, Nathan Ramsey, and Ally Smith.  Our 2nd place team, “The Angry Nerds”, is pictured below.

Congratulations to each of you!  Your imagination and team work exemplify the Spike Spirit that creates tomorrow’s leaders!
