Fills Four District Positions

New head coach comes from 5A school ranks

Superintendent Dan Troxell, Ph.D., and the Board of Trustees of the Kerrville Independent School District have announced the filling of four district positions.

Candidates selected are David Jones, District Athletic Director/Tivy High School Varsity Head Football Coach; Wade Ivy, Assistant Superintendent for Administration and Human Resources; Kevin Jordan, Head Band Director; and Jamie Fails, Media and Public Relations Specialist.

David Jones has been named Athletic Director and THS Varsity Head Football Coach for Tivy High School. Jones is currently Head Coach and campus athletic coordinator at Cypress Woods High School in Houston, a 5A high school. During the four-year varsity history of the school, Cypress Woods has a record of 38-13, and has advanced to the 3rd, 4th, 4th, and 2nd rounds of the 5A playoffs each of the past four seasons.

Prior to his arrival at Cypress Woods, Jones was offensive coordinator at two other 5A schools - Jersey Village High School in Houston, and Allen High School in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. He also worked in Oklahoma high schools as Head Football Coach at Edmond North High School, offensive coordinator at Edmond Memorial High School, and quarterback coach at Westmoore High School. As quarterbacks coach at Ouachita Christian School, Jones helped the school win a Louisiana state championship.

Jones’ wife, Holly, is an elementary school principal in Tomball, and they have three children.

“Coach Jones is a man of the highest integrity,” Dr. Troxell said. “We are confident he will lead all of our district’s athletic programs to excellence. We are truly excited for our student athletes, our staff, our parents, and our community.”

Dr. Troxell cited the work of the eight-member selection committee, which has spent hours reviewing and interviewing finalists for the position.

“I want to thank all the members of the interview committee,” Dr. Troxell said. “The community representatives are all Tivy High School graduates, and the group made strong decisions in a professional and timely manner.”

Committee members included: Robert Jolly, Administration; Robert Templeton, Tivy High School Principal; Gary Jones, Interim Athletic Director; Heather Engstrom, THS Dean of Instruction; Gary Miears, Sr., THS graduate, retired Texas educator, and former KISD board member; Mike Dyal, THS graduate, former college and NFL football player, and Kerrville businessman; and Matt Ayala, THS graduate, former THS athlete, and current student at Texas A&M - Corpus Christi.

Wade Ivy, Assistant Superintendent for Administration and Human Resource

Wade Ivy will move from Principal at Nimitz Elementary School into Central Office as Assistant Superintendent for Administration and Human Resources. Ivy has been part of the Kerrville Independent School District for 18 years. He most recently served as principal of Nimitz Elementary School for 11 years. Prior to that, Ivy taught English and served as an administrator at Hal Peterson Middle School. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Schreiner University and a Masters of Education from Sul Ross University.

“Wade is a man of incredible work ethic and loyalty,” Dr. Troxell said. “He is a consummate professional educator, and we are excited to bring him into the Central Office.”

Kevin Jordan, Head Band Director

Kevin Jordan steps up as Tivy High School Head Band Director after five years in the same position at Hal Peterson Middle School. Prior to coming to KISD, Jordan was Director of Music for 10 years at the Vanguard Institute in Boerne. He earned his Bachelor of Music Studies from the University of Texas at San Antonio, and his Masters of Music from Texas A&M University in Commerce.

“Kevin is a man of great compassion,” Dr. Troxell said. “He cares deeply for children and he knows the subject of music extremely well. Students at Tivy High School will be thrilled to have their middle school band director lead them through their high school years."

Jamie Fails, Media and Public Relations Specialist

Jamie Fails will become Media and Public Relations Specialist after 10 years of teaching, the past five years at Daniels Elementary School. Fails also worked two years as account executive for Vollmer Public Relations in Houston, serving clients in mental health, entertainment, and business industries. She has a Bachelors of Arts in Communication, with a concentration in Electronic Media.

“To find someone within our district of Jamie’s ability and background is truly amazing,” Dr. Troxell said. “She has a lot of energy and visionary ideas which we will start using in the next school year.”
