2012 Seventh Grade Duke University Talent Identification Program Results

Fourteen students from Hal Peterson Middle School participated in the Duke Talent Search testing, resulting in four students receiving state recognition for their high scores.  Seventh grade students who met the criteria of 876 or above on the Math test, and/or 860 on the Reading/ELA test on their 6th grade TAKS in 2011 were invited to take the SAT.  This test gave students the opportunity to determine how they will do on the SAT in high school and provides resources on how to continue improving their scores.  In addition, student received information on many different colleges and universities as well as financial aid.

Duke University announced that of the fourteen students who participated, four students, Joshua Bestor, Tamara Leifheit, Elizabeth Moczygemba, and Ryan Stanton all qualified for state recognition. As they were among the highest scoring students nationally, they were also offered the opportunity to attend a three week summer enrichment program called the Center for Summer Studies Program. The Center program is offered on different university campuses across the nation including Trinity University. One student, Gilbert Badillo, scored high enough to qualify for a three week enrichment program called the Academy for Summer Studies. It also is offered at multiple universities, including Texas A&M University.
