Q: How do I know which school my child should attend?

Q: What are the immunization requirements for student registration?
A: View immunization requirements for grades K-12 from the Texas Department of State Health Services and other district medication policies on our Health Services site here.

Q: How do I find out about bus transportation and schedules?
A: Please visit our KISD’s Transportation site here for department information and bus routes or call (830)257-1344. Representatives from Transportation will be on each elementary school campus during “Meet-the-Teacher” nights to answer specific questions you may have.
Q: What age do children enter kindergarten?
A: A student is eligible for kindergarten if they are five-years-old or older on or before September 1st of the school year.
Q: Does the district have a pre-school program?
A: Yes. KISD offers pre-kindergarten classes for three and four-year-old students. Pre-kindergarten classes are also offered through Head Start. All preschool programs are housed at the Early Childhood Center located at 1011 Third Street. For enrollment and eligibility, or for more information, contact Director Brenda Heimann at (830)257-1335.

Q: What is the dress code for my child?
A: The Kerrville ISD dress code is established to teach grooming, hygiene, respect for authority, instill personal discipline, prevent disruption, and to promote learning, modesty, and safety. In general, students should wear clothing that would be appropriate for a job situation. Specific campus dress codes will be included in the Student Handbook distributed the first week of school.
Q: When are report cards issued? How will I receive them?
A: Report cards are sent home with the student the Thursday following the end of each grading period. Grading periods in 2011-2012 are as follows:

Q: What is your visitors’ policy?
A: Parents are welcomed and encouraged to visit their child’s classroom, with teacher permission, or have lunch on campus with their child, or volunteer at any time. Check with your specific teacher and campus for more information about visiting. District-wide, KISD is proud to provide the most innovative security system for our students and staff through V•soft’s Raptor technologies. V•soft is a web-based software application that has been developed with the purpose of aiding educational facilities in tracking their visitors, students and faculty. KISD’s visitors’ policy now requires all parents to stop in the office before proceeding through the campus. Parents should check into the main reception area, present a valid drivers license to the receptionist at every visit, and wait for the official visitors badge to print. Badges must be worn by all visitors and volunteers at all times.
Q: How do I find out about the school lunch program and meal prepay accounts?
A: Visit our Child Nutrition site here for more information. Representatives from Food Services will also be on each school campus during “Meet-the-Teacher” nights to answer specific questions you may have. In addition, KISD parents will be able to check cafeteria accounts, meal activity, and add money directly through our new parent access program, Skyward. Access to new users, training and instructions can be requested in the front office of any KISD campus.
Q: What is the best way to find out about weather delays and closings or school emergencies?
A: The KISD website at www.kerrvilleisd.net and the district’s educational cable television station, KEC-Channel 2 will be the first sites for emergency postings. This site includes both weather and school emergency information. (Note: If you see our official emergency icon, a red warning bell, prominently displayed on the home page, you will automatically be directed to the Emergency and Crisis page.)
Q: Where can I find school news and current features throughout the district?
A: KISD is proud to offer the most current and accurate district and campus news on our website. Featured on the home page you will find official school press releases, photos, and other important and timely information featuring our district, staff, and students. Go to www.kerrvilleisd.net 24 hours a day, seven days a week! Our educational cable television channel, Channel 2, also features special event listings and school information.
Q: Who will be my child’s teacher? How soon can I find out?
A: At the elementary level, all teacher assignments are posted at “Meet the Teacher” nights held on each campus. Check the schedule listed in the Start of School press release.
