TRIPLE CROWN
KISD Orchestra Sweeps for Third Year in a Row!
The Tivy High School and Peterson Middle School Varsity Composite Orchestra competed and received their third straight Sweepstakes (including straight one's from all six judges) at the Region 11 UIL Orchestra Concert and Sight-reading Contest held March 8-9 at Warren HS in San Antonio.Thirteen regional high school orchestras competed including Brandeis, Brennan, Clark, Del Rio, Health Careers, Holmes, John Jay, John Marshall, John Paul Stevens, O'Connor, Warren, William Howard Taft and Tivy with Peterson Middle School.The KISD UIL Orchestra, under the direction of Mrs. Patricia Lee and Ms. Jessica Lee, offered a challenging program of Baroque, classical, and modern music. The selections were Brandenburg Concerto No.4. Allegro by J.S. Bach; themes from "The Moldau" by Bedrich Smetana, arranged by Frost; and Equuleus by Soon Hee Newbold, based on a legend from Greek mythology.According to Director Pat Lee, “The judges use a rigorous set of standards to assess the performances of each orchestra. The sight-reading is particularly challenging and features the orchestra performing a piece of music they have never seen before or rehearsed, requiring top musical skills in note-reading and orchestral preparation.” Members of the award-winning Varsity Composite Orchestra include, from Tivy High School, Lilly Cantu, Megan Cantu, Nicole Fajardo, Albert Garcia(*), Betty Gongora, Sarah Hayes, Annie Kikhamsouk, Davin Lemmon, Hunter Marks, Elisa Montanez, Pedro Ortiz, Haley Pannell, Cecily Real(*), Esly Rodriguez, Emily Rosales(*), Katie Simone, Danny Soria(*), Claire Starks, Katy Swanson(**), and Krystal Worden.From Hal Peterson Middle School are Rachel Badillo, Hanna Bailey, Lisa Cullen, Brandon Curtis, Kiersten Dickson, Parsa Emami, Pouya Emami, Christian Garcia, Matthew Maupin, Philip McKeon, Emma McCormick, Hannah McCullough, Mary Elizabeth McQueen, Jennifer Morquecho, Emily Mudry, Nathaniel Raggo, Abigail Sanchez, Morgan Schoch, and Katjia Wilson.For more information on KISD’s orchestra program, contact Pat Lee at (830)257-2207 or email pat.lee@kerrvilleisd.net.
