Classified Applicants seeking employment as educational aide:  The Kerrville Independent School District requires all Educational Aides to be Highly Qualified under the guidelines set by the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) established January 8, 2002.

These requirements are as follows:

  • Complete two years of study at an institution or higher education (minimum of 48 credit hours), OR
  • Obtain an Associate of higher degree, OR
  • Pass a District Designed Assessment (Para Educator Test of 40 units)

 

As of January 1, 2010 anyone taking the Para Educator Test for the first time must pass 40 units. If you took the Para Educator Test prior to January 1, 2010, then you are Highly Qualified with the 30 units.

The Para-Educator Test will be administered when an applicant is recommended for hire.  The fee for the test is $24.00.  The test must be taken and a minimum of 40 units passed within three (3) days of the date on the Recommendation to Hire.  Up to five (5) additional modules may be assigned depending on job placement.  In addition, the applicant must apply for an educational aide certificate through the State Board of Education (fee is $32.00) and fingerprinting fee ($47.00).  Applying for the certificate is done in the KISD Human Resources Office.
