The Kerrville I. S. D. Gifted and Talented Program, in a partnership of parents, teachers, and administrators, will recognize and serve the unique academic, social, and emotional needs of the gifted to enable them to reach their maximum potential in the classroom and community.

Program Goals

The Advanced Academic Department strives to:

  • Ensure that the curriculum includes appropriate levels of extension, enrichment, and acceleration to satisfy students' intellectual curiosity.

  • Offer a wide variety of learning opportunities which encourage students to refine their creative and problem-solving abilities.

  • Provide teachers with the current philosophy and methodology for working with gifted children.

  • Communicate with parents to promote children's social and emotional well being and confidence.

Gifted and Talented Program Parent Information Meeting Scheduled.

gt_study.jpgParents interested in learning more about the Gifted and Talented nomination process for KISD's Gifted and Talented Program or needing more information on the screening process are encouraged to attend the Parent Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, November 1st.  The meeting will be held at Central Office in  the KISD Board Room, 1009 Barnett Street, from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.  For more information, contact Ellen Williams (830)257-2200, ext. 223.  Print flyer here.

 

 

High Number of AP Incentives Scholarships Awarded in KISD
APcheck_11.jpgThe Kerrville Public School Foundations presented Kerrville ISD with a check totaling $11,125.  The money will be awarded to 54 students who took 65 Advanced Placement tests.  Students taking the AP exams and scoring a 3 or above on the exams are eligible for scholarships.  A score of 3 earns $150, 4’s earns $175, and a 5 earns $200.  In addition, each test passed represents three or more hours of college credit earned. To learn more about KISD's AP Program, contact Williams at 257-2200, ext. 223.

 Ellen Williams, the Kerrville Independent School District’s (KISD’s) Senior Director of Advanced Academics, was named the 2010 Regional Advocate for Region 20 by the Texas Association of Gifted and Talented (TAGT).  TAGT is the largest state organization promoting gifted education in the United States.  For complete story, click here. 

  

TXSVNlogo.jpgCourses of particular interest to students not otherwise offered at Tivy High School can be considered through the Texas Virtual School Network (TxVSN).  Geared toward high ability students, these online courses are typically proven to be rigorous and for students able to work independently on subjects of particular interest.  Students can only enroll with the approval of the TXVSN school coordinator, Heather Engstrom.  For more information, visit the TXVSN website at www.txvsn.org and click on the TxVSN/Catalog tab or contact Mrs. Engstrom at 257-2212, x. 255.
