The Tivy High School Destination ImagiNation (DI) Improvisation Team captured first place at the Regional Competition held March 3 in Kerrville. The 71 teams that came from across the region to compete in the annual competition brought more than 1,500 students and visitors to the Kerrville area. Kerrville Independent School District (KISD) entered five teams in the competition, three from B.T. Wilson Sixth Grade School and two from Tivy High School. B.T. Wilson received 2nd in the Structural and Architectural challenge, 4th in Improvisation, and 5th in Theater Arts/Fine Arts. A second team from THS placed 2nd in Theater Arts/Fine Arts. Heading to state are Tivy High students Cameron Cook, Mitchell Priour, Caleb Thomas, John Gruetzner, Carl LeStourgeon, Colin Pratt, and Will Willis. The team placed first in the Theater Arts/Improvisation challenge, "Switching Traditions," and will be competing for the state title on April 13 and 14 at the University of Dallas in Richardson. Cindy Thomas is KISD’s DI Coordinator. Teams from 16 regions across Texas will be competing for the state title. The improvisation competition is structured to allow each team 30 minutes to prepare for the challenge. Then, the team will have six minutes to perform a skit based on the theme of researched traditions from other nations. Destination ImagiNation is a community-based school program that builds participants' creativity, problem solving, and teamwork. It is one of the largest creative problem solving program for kids. Teams of five to seven members work together to apply creativity, critical thinking and their particular talents to solve a Team Challenge. Each Team Challenge is designed to be open-ended and solvable in many ways and on many levels. The teams are judged on the ways they address the problem and the creative ways they solve it.
