KISD Receives Communication Awards |
Members of Kerrville Independent School District’s (KISD’S) Communications and Public Relations Department received a record number of awards at the recent Texas School Public Relations Association (TSPRA) Annual Conference held in Austin. The KISD Close Up, entered by Phil Houseal and Lisa Winters, won a Gold Star Award for External Newsletters in districts of 10,000 students or less. It also earned the Gold Medal as the overall Best of Category among all entries in the state. Christie Kitchens won a Gold Star Award in Video/Cable TV for an episode of “Cowboy Eye for the City Guy," a Club Ed class that was featured on Texas Country Reporter with Bob Phillips. Dr. Jose Parra and Lisa Winters earned a Silver Star Award for their collaborative Video Promotional/Marketing Piece, “Kid’s Inspire Special Dreams.” In addition, Lisa Winters received TSPRA’s selective Crystal Commendation, an award given for featured special programs and events. Winters won for “It’s Happening, Now!” in the area of Parent Involvement/Volunteer Programs. Each year, the Texas School Public Relations Association recognizes school communicators for outstanding work in both print and electronic media. This year, more than 1,150 entries were received. Entries are judged by Texas public relations, marketing, video production and graphics professionals using a standard set of evaluation criteria based on current profession industry standards. TSPRA, based in Austin, is a professional organization with more than 900 members who are dedicated to improving public education in Texas by promoting effective public relations practices, providing professional development for its members, and improving communications between Texans and their public schools. Each award recipient will be recognized by the KISD Board of Trustees at the upcoming monthly meeting scheduled for March 21st. For more information, contact Lisa Winters at 257-2200, ext. 233. |
