Tivy High School Counselors to Hold Information Night on the New 4X4 Graduation Requirements for Students Entering Grade 9 in 2007-2008

For Immediate Release Feb 5, 2007
Contact: Wendy Holt, THS Counselor 257-2212 x236

Tivy High School counselors will present an information night on the State Board of Education's new graduation plans at Peterson Middle School Cafeteria at 6:00 PM on Monday, February 12.

The State Board of Education upgraded high school graduation plans that increase the number of math and science credits, as well as the total number of course credits, that students must earn to receive a diploma. Students will now have to take 4 years of math and 4 years of science in addition to the already required 4 credits of English language arts and 4 credits of social studies in order to successfully complete the Recommended or Distinguished Graduation Plans. Students entering high school next fall will be the first group of students who will follow the revised graduation plans.

According to Wendy Holt, THS Counselor, the information to be presented will be extremely important to students and parents of students entering the 9th grade in 2007-2008 and thereafter. The information will include which graduation plans will be affected and how they are affected.

Counselors will discuss the new courses that will be required, how those classes will fit into a four-year plan, and will go over sample graduation plans.

All students and parents of incoming freshmen are strongly encouraged to attend this information night in order to understand how this will effect their high school four-year plan and graduation requirements. If you should have any questions, please contact Tivy High School Lead Counselor, Wendy Holt at 257-2212 ext. 236.
