HPMS orchestra earns Div I rating at region competition |
In its first time participating in the regional UIL orchestra competition, the Hal Peterson Middle School orchestra earned a Division I rating in sight reading and Division II rating in performance. The event was held Mar 6 at Clark High School in San Antonio. Competitors included middle and high school students from school districts throughout the San Antonio area. Jacobi Caldwell and Pat Lee are directors. Thirty-one HPMS students participated. "We did really well,, especially consider this is our first official competition," Caldwell said. "Compared to all other groups in their division, this group received some of the highest scores. Our children really worked well together as a team - they played as an orchestra." The Kerrville ISD orchestra program was introduced three years ago. The program now extends from 4th grade through high school. On the way home, the students stopped by the internationally-known Terra Nova violin shop in San Antonio, where the owner and staff gave the students a tour and presentation. |
