BTWilson hosts National Geographic Bee |
Contact: Nita Kunz - 257-2207 On Tuesday, Jan 9, 2007, students at BT Wilson 6th Grade school will participate in the National Geographic Geography Bee at the BT Wilson cafetorium beginning at 3:00 p.m. The school is located at 605 Tivy Street in Kerrville. The event is free and open to the public. This oral geography quiz is sent to schools by National Geographic to promote interest in geography. Students may log on to www.nationalgeographic.com/geobee to study questions from previous years. According to Nita Kunz, the contest begins with a Qualifying Round of "grueling questions." Contestants are selected to advance to the Preliminary Round. The questions continue until only two students remain. The Final Round consists of questions that determine who will be the winner. The winner then takes a written exam to qualify for competition at the state level and a trip to Washington, D.C. There, the student will compete at the national level for a $25,000 college scholarship. Alex Trebek will moderate the national finals on May 22 and 23, to be aired on the National Geographic Channel, and later on PBS television stations. This contest includes students in grades four through eight from throughout the United States and five territories. |
