KISD Announces Bad Weather Make Up Days

Kerrville Independent School District (KISD) Board of Trustees approved the plan to make up the three days missed January 16th-18th due to inclement weather and safety issues.

January 16th will be made up on February 19th and January 17th will be made up on May 31st.  Both days were already built in the 2006-2007 district calendar as Bad Weather Days and will be used as such to make up for instructional days lost.

Approval to excuse the additional day of January 18th has been formally requested to the Texas Education Agency (TEA), upon approval by the School Board of Trustees at the January 23rd meeting.  The third day will be waived if TEA approves the district’s formal written request.  TEA policy states, “All districts will be required to use the two “make-up days” built into the school calendar to make up any instructional day(s) lost.  If a district misses more than two days of instruction because of weather, safety, or health issues during the 2006-2007 school year, approval to excuse those additional days must be requested.  For example, if a district cancels school for three days because of a power outage, gas curtailment, water shortage, or flu epidemic, the two “make-up days” are to be used for two of the three days lost.”

According to Superintendent, Dr. Dan Troxell, the district is highly confident that the waiver will be granted.

Classes will be held as normal on Monday, February 19th and Thursday, May 31st.
