The money was raised on the campus as part of its Pennies for Patients campaign. Security State Bank helped count the coins that came in.

On Friday, Feb 9, the B.T. Wilson Student Council celebrated its success with this year's Pennies for Patients campaign that raised a record $1420 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Student council officers helped serve pizza to Nita Kunz's advisory class that raised $300, the largest amount among the 15 advisories. Mark Cowden, President of Security State Bank & Trust, presented the certified check the bank drew up after counting the piles of pennies and coins.

"We couldn't be more proud," said student council sponsor Barbara Doran, who noted that the students raised this money in a three-week period that included the bad weather days off from school. "We have done this every year, and this year we broke all records. These kids deserve to be honored for all their hard work for this wonderful cause.
