Welcome to the Kerrville I.S.D. Head Start and
Pre-Kindergarten! 

Ours is a developmentally appropriate early childhood program providing a comprehensive approach to delivering services to children and families.  Our goal is to promote school readiness by providing children and families with educational, health, nutritional, and social services.  By involving parents in decision making and providing links to needed community services, we strive to strengthen families in order that they, as the primary nurturers of their children, will promote academic and social excellence in their children.  

Opening in 1996 as a Head Start campus with 72 children, we have grown and are now able to accommodate up to 172 Head Start and Pre-Kindergarten students.  Head Start is a Federal Program and Pre-K is a state program, both serving low income children who turn four years old on or before September 1st.  Income levels for qualification do differ for each program.   Applications for the current school year are taken on an ongoing basis.
We will begin taking applications for the next school year during the spring semester.  Dates and locations will be advertised.

KISD EXPANDS EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAM
Eligible Three Year Olds Now Accepted into Pre-Kindergarten and Head Start

KISD now offers a wonderful opportunity for three year old children to get an even earlier “head start.”  Utilizing existing staff and facilities, KISD invites families with three year olds to enroll in the district’s Early Childhood Programs which include Head Start and Pre-Kindergarten. 

Head Start is a federal program and Pre-K is a state program, both serving low income children.  Both programs promote school readiness by providing children and families with educational, health, nutritional, and social services.  The program for three year olds will begin immediately. 

Applications are now being accepted and registration packets available at KISD’s Early Childhood Programs office located at 700 College Street. (See links for the flyer in both English and Spanish.)
