KPSF Prize Patrol Surprises Educators!

The Kerrville Public School Foundation’s PRIZE PATROL on May 7th and 8th  awarded sixteen educator individuals and teams  in the Kerrville Independent School District $34,357 for Instructional Grants .  “What better way to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week!” said Carole Tucker, President of KPSF.

The KPSF PRIZE PATROL traveled from campus to campus, armed with balloons, cameras, and a giant check prototype knocking on classroom doors, lunchrooms, and libraries catching teachers unaware.   They celebrated going into the schools and meeting the educators and students who directly benefit from the grants.  “Our teachers deserve all the support they can get,” said Bob Green, Vice President of Programs and Allocations for the Foundation. “These 2008-2009 grants are awarded for creative and innovative teaching ideas and will help educators go above and beyond the regular budget & curriculum to enrich KISD students’ education.”  Katherine Sutherlin , KPSF Board Member, led the  PRIZE PATROL which consisted of board members Kim Clarkson, Jenny Mitchell, Debbie Vieau, and Meredith Wendele.

The process began when all educators were invited to apply for KPSF Instructional Grants. The Kerrville Public School Foundation received 23 grant proposals seeking funding for innovative & creative projects and programs to enhance learning for their students.  Educators are given the funds for 2008-2009 school year during the month of May in order to have materials or training in  place  to start the new school year. According to KPSF Treasurer, Debbie Vieau, “The Kerrville Public School Foundation awarded $30,885 to educators last year, and the board is now thrilled to increase it this year.”

The mission of the Kerrville Public School Foundation is to serve as a catalyst for involving the community in the enhancement and achievement of academic excellence for the children of Kerrville ISD by providing financial assistance not available through state or local funding.  The Foundation is not part of Kerrville ISD, but is a separate 501c 3 organization sponsoring various events to raise Instructional Grant funding and involve Kerrville in supporting its KISD educators.  Many educators in KISD donate to the foundation.

The Board of the Kerrville Public School Foundation welcomes anyone who would like to join them in the support of educators of KISD. They do more than provide Instructional Grants.   For more information about KPSF, contact Barbara Johnston, Director at kpsf@windstream.net , call 257-9282, or go to their website at www.kerrvilleisd.net/foundation.
