Kerrville Teachers, K-12, have just been awarded over $30,000 in grants by the Kerrville Public School Foundation.  An announcement of the grant awards was made Monday, April 30.   The grant money is used to purchase innovative teaching materials, for training teachers in unique programs, and other enrichment activities. Barbara Johnston, director of the foundation, stated, “We were so pleased with the variety of requests this year.  Some of the grants are for struggling readers to enrich their learning experience, some are for challenge lab experiences , and many are science and math grants.  Parents need to know that KISD teachers will be bringing into their classrooms materials such as music for teaching math, portable classroom laptops, and Texas History supplemental materials.  This is just a tip of the grants awarded.  Educators in this district are highly qualified, and their innovative spirit shows here.  Our children are the winners!”

Carole Tucker, chairman of the grant process, said recently that approximately $8,000 was received this year through the KISD payroll donations.  The foundation is thrilled with the educators’ investment in themselves and delighted to return it to them.  Additional funds are raised through the foundation’s annual fund-raiser Reach for the Stars Gala and profits from the Tivy Tiles.  The non- profit foundation is not part of  Kerrville ISD, but exists to support it.  Many community members donate to support the Foundation’s goals.

In addition to awarding grants, the foundation does much more.  This school year marked the kick off of the foundation’s new Exemplary Educational Endowment campaign to have permanent monies to fund programs such a David Dozier Science Chairman for the district , Stepping Up Science to exemplary.  The Foundation will follow that by funding a Math Chairman.  In addition the Endowment will pay educators to be trained in a National Certification program.  The best and most accomplished teachers will be seeking this, as it represents an opportunity for professional growth unlike any other now available to educators.  It is a symbol of professional teaching excellence.  The Foundation also joins community members in supporting the AP program awards for excellence at Tivy High School.

The Kerrville Public School Foundation was founded in 1989 to support KISD educators through programs that cannot be funded by school district normal budgeted funds. The foundation offers the community an opportunity to support their educators at the grass roots level.
