STAR STRUCK
Foundation Getting Closer to Gold

Contact: Steve Hamilton 257-9282

American orator Henry Ward Beecher made famous the quote “Every charitable act is a stepping stone towards heaven.” With eyes upward, the Kerrville Public School Foundation Board believe “sky’s the limit” when it comes to assisting the students and staff of Kerrville ISD.

Since 1989, they have taken giant steps toward their goal to raise funds for the public schools through private sources throughout the Hill Country. Just two months ago, the Foundation aimed even higher by launching a new campaign to raise over $500,000 in one year. Titled the Exemplary Education Endowment (EEE), the Foundation specifically wants to:

- Enrich science education in all grades through the hiring of an endowed science chair;
- Improve the quality of instruction by providing financial assistance to teachers pursuing the National Board Certification Program; and,
- Provide scholarship incentives to students completing Advanced Placement classes.

The campaign kicked off September 10, 2006 in a private affair. Generating over $10,000, the kick-off propelled the Foundation into action as brochures, letters, speeches, and personal visits to civic organizations and interested businesses became stepping stones for eliciting support. The Foundation has further developed a comprehensive website and hired an Executive Director, Steve Hamilton.

As of today, the Foundation has raised over $117,000. Continually reaching for the stars, the Foundation offers many levels of giving tied to their celestial theme including Galaxy Star ($100), Constellation Star ($1,000), Shooting Star ($5,000), Shining Star ($10,000), Silver Star ($25,000), Gold Star ($50,000), and North Star ($100,000). A non-profit, 501 (c) (3) organization, tax deductible donations can be made directly, received on-line, or mailed to the Foundation offices.

Support continues to skyrocket through dedicated efforts of the Foundation who have more exciting events planned to promote the campaign and raise funds in the coming year. Coming soon is the annual “Reach for the Stars” gala and auction. This festive event is scheduled for January 27, 2007 at the Inn of the Hills and the general public is invited to attend. In March, a “State of the Schools Breakfast” with Superintendent Dan Troxell is planned. Planned for the 1st of March, this is an ideal opportunity to learn about the progress of the Foundation and hear about the many district and student successes across KISD.
