KPSF WEEK

The City of Kerrville has proclaimed April 27 – May 3rd as Kerrville Public School Foundation “KPSF WEEK” and Saturday May 3, 2008 , as “KPSF Day” for their efforts to benefit the Kerrville community.  KPSF was recognized at the City Council Meeting on April 22nd by Mayor Eugene Smith who referenced the many accomplishments of the foundation for KISD school educators and children.   The proclamation commended the foundation for their hard work and excellence in involving the community in the enhancement and achievement of academic excellence for the children of Kerrville ISD by providing financial assistance not available through state or local funding.

The special week designated in their honor will be spent preparing for Saturday’s big duck race event.  The KPSF Great Duck Race will be held at Louise Hays Park on May 3rd, in conjunction with the City of Kerrville Family Day, where 5,000 yellow rubber ducks adopted by individuals and businesses will race down the Guadalupe River as a fundraiser benefiting the Kerrville Public School Foundation.  This Kerrville Family Day will include many activities such as Sticks for Kids Jr. Golf Lessons, Fly Fishing Lessons, a Duck Fashion Show, a KPD Canine Unit “Boy” and Partner, Water safety, wildlife activities, and a Junior Olympics Skills Soccer & 50 M Dash followed by the 13th annual Bike Rodeo.   Carole Tucker, KPSF president said, “The City of Kerrville along our sponsors have been wonderful in helping us accomplish this, and our Vice President of Development, Kathy MacDonald and her committee have done an outstanding job.”

KPSF has worked for over 20 years to meet the needs of KISD staff and students.  Money raised from the Duck Race will assist the Exemplary Education Endowment Campaign, a campaign established two years ago to create an endowed science chair, assist teachers with National Certificate Program, and continue to offer scholarship incentives to students participating in the Advanced Placement Program.

The Kerrville Public School Foundation invites you to help them celebrate KPSF Week by learning more about their initiatives and assisting them in their endeavors.   Visit their web site at www.kerrvilleisd.net/foundation or adopt a duck on line at www.duckrace.com/kerrville.  You can adopt a duck, a six quack, a flock, a gaggle, or a VID (Very important Duck).

Join the Foundation on KPSF Day at the Great Duck Race with activities beginning at 9:30 a.m. and  the KISD Principals Race- The Wisequackers being launched at 11 a.m.,  followed by the KPSF Great Duck Race.  The Duck Race provides a perfect opportunity for a family outing,” said board member Lee Vanacker.

Following KPSF Week, the Foundation will be releasing their funding for 2008 Instructional Grants and will follow that by awarding two scholarships of $1,000 each at the Tivy High School Senior Scholarship Award Night.
