Horizons Classes are offered at B. T. Wilson Sixth Grade School in language arts and math for gifted and talented students and high-ability students. Students identified as gifted and talented are enrolled in these classes automatically and participate in an additional 100-minute enrichment program each week. Students who meet two of the following three criteria for each subject area are placed in Horizons classes as well:

Math

  1. Commended score on 5th Grade Math Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS)

  2. Fifth grade math average equal to or greater than 93 for the first 5 six weeks

  3. Math Diagnostic 34 out of 38

Language Arts

  1. Commended score on 5th Grade Reading TAKS

  2. Fifth grade language arts (reading and English) average equal to or greater than 93 for the first 5 six weeks

  3. Reading equivalency on S.T.A.R. test of 7th grade level or higher

Students are expected to maintain at least a B average in their Horizons class(es). All students at B. T. Wilson are encouraged to read during the summer. A recommended reading list is available at the B. T. Wilson campus or online at the following websites:
