B. T. Wilson (Burtrust Tobias Wilson, Jr.) was an exceptional man who touched many lives here in Kerrville as he lived his life bringing people together. He was a dedicated educator, a distinctive leader, a talented musician and a devoted family man.

Mr. Wilson, with wife and children, moved to Kerr County in 1940 to work in the Kerrville Colored School, a segregated school for black children. During his tenure, he was instrumental in naming the school Doyle High, and he wrote the school song, "The Purple and White".

He graciously served Doyle in the position of principal, but never hesitated to serve as counselor, coach, choir and band director or even as the janitor. His most precious creation was that of the organization of an a acapella choir that became noted for excellence throughout the state of Texas. His concern, love and interest prompted students to give him the affectionate name of "Prof" (short for professor).

When the Kerrville schools were integrated, Mr. Wilson gloriously took his place at Tivy High School. He gained love and respect there from students of different races as a mathematics and biology teacher. He was inspirational to many in the schools and community before his death on August 8, 1998. Mr. Wilson's expertise has been memorialized with the B. T. Wilson Sixth Grade School.

Billie Hardee,
Doyle High School Graduate

"A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil."
Matthew (13:3-5)

"Just remember that your students are like the seeds in the Bible which grow in different soils. They are each unique and have their special needs."
