Welcome to Nimitz Elementary School, the home of the Dolphins!
 |
| Wade Ivy, Principal |
The Nimitz teachers, staff, parents and students make up a
dynamic community of learners which continuously grows and
improves. Teachers
spend hours in collaborative team meetings in which curriculum
and instruction are aligned, data is analyzed, and student
concerns are discussed. We do this to ensure that the
social, emotional, behavioral and academic needs of our students
are met. Enrichment activities such as Honor Choir, Orchestra,
Art Club, Spanish classes, Challenge Lab, Texas Future Problem
Solvers, Chess club, Dynamic Dolphins, an after-school fitness
club, and the Nimitz Admirals, a fifth grade service organization
offer opportunities for students to extend their learning.
Nimitz parents are quick to participate in school activities.
Every year, we invite parents into our specials classes through
our Parents in Art, Music, and PE programs. We also host
a series of Family Reading Nights that always draw big crowds. In
addition, our parents support the school financially through
participation in our Fall Carnival and Spring Walk-a-thon. Money
raised from these events is used to purchase instructional
supplies and materials, playground equipment, and teacher morale
boosting activities.
It is hard work, but it is purposeful work. We take
our responsibilities as educators and parents seriously, and
we realize that the lives we touch today will influence the
lives of tomorrow. |

CHARACTER COUNTS!
Nimitz Student Wins Spurs Tickets in Tim Duncan Program
From the day students start kindergarten, KISD schools tout the importance and application of good character. The district’s Character Counts program, supplemented by the framework constructed by parents, only further a student’s chances of developing into a young person of integrity, dependability, fairness, respect, caring, and civic responsibility. Those are the ingredients San Antonio Spur Tim Duncan is looking for in his awards program for students in Texas and that is just what he found in Nimitz 4th grade student Roger Longoria.
Longoria displays a strong character in class, at home, on the field or basketball court according to the teachers and students that know him and those consistent characteristics led his teacher Sue Fromm to nominate him for the Tim Duncan Character Award. >> read more
NIMITZ ELEMENTARY
by Brandon Curtis
In the Hill Country of Texas, there is a school whose namesake is the pride of each student. This school, Chester W. Nimitz Elementary has educated children in Kerrville for twenty years. The name Nimitz was chosen to honor Fleet Admiral Chester William Nimitz, a native of the Hill Country. Born in Fredericksburg, Texas in 1885, Nimitz attended Tivy High School in Kerrville and then earned an appointment to the United States Navel Academy in 1901. >> read more
