In 2004, KPSF grants partially funded the Challenge Labs at all four elementary schools.  The Foundation’s generous support allowed KISD to fully stock these classrooms with a variety of educational and instructional materials.

Programs

A Higher Purpose

Established in 1987 as a 501(c) (3) non-profit corporation, the KPSF is solely dedicated to meeting the needs of teachers and students inside and outside of the classroom.  With over 15 years of service to our schools, the KPSF has built a solid foundation of support under our schools. Initiating teacher grants and ultimately expanding into the Advanced Placement Incentive Program for our students, the KPSF build on past successes while continually looking toward the future in order to fund programs identified and aligned with KISD’s clear vision.

In the upcoming year, under the Exemplary Education Endowment, the KPSF has offered to expand funding in these specific areas.

Endowed Science Chair
Stepping Up Science!

KISD’s ever-present goal to stand “exemplary” as a district and in all subjects in all grade levels is now strengthened and supported by the Foundation.  An answered call for support, beginning with science will see the KPSF piloting a program to add an Endowed Science Chair in the near future.  Funding in this area will launch us toward success in science by:

  • Assisting science teachers in all grades
  • Providing enrichment and encouragement and meeting the academic and interest needs of our students in this important academic area
  • Elevating our science scores and focusing more attention toward science

Advanced Placement Incentive Program
Sky’s the Limit!

KISD believes it pays to take the right classes, literally and figuratively.  Each year, thousands of students in high schools across the country enroll in the rigorous program of college-level courses for students who are serious about getting ahead.  Two years ago, KISD started the Advanced Placement (AP) Incentive Program, which rewards students with monetary scholarships for scoring a 3, 4, or 5 on the AP exam.  KPSF’s support of this exciting program specifically benefits our Tivy High School students in many ways, including:

  • Encourages participation in the AP program
  • Offers students incentives to take the AP exams
  • Allows students to jump start their college experience by graduating with college credit under their belt, as well as having gained experience with college level curriculum
  • Ensures scholarship funding for the rising number of students participating in the program

By offering financial incentives, our sponsors and supporters prove to our students how much they believe in our students’ ability to take advanced placement courses and be successful.

National Board Certification Program
The Cream of the Crop

KISD recognizes the growing challenges facing public education and are in full favor of ideas, programs, and strategies to enhance and elevate teaching and learning across the district.  KPSF’s support of this district initiative is beneficial in the following ways:

  • Raises the level of achievement and caliber of teachers
Helps teachers who successfully complete the rigorous certification process to move beyond State certification into a national level of certification
  • Causes teachers to analyze their work, improve their skills, define their teaching standards, and reflect on the impact their teaching has on student learning

Thanks to the KPSF, teachers will receive 100% funding for tuition, materials, and the actual exam which varies from state to state but averages over $2,500.  Now, a strong district, can just get stronger, and this new program is a win-win for all students and all staff.

A continued priority for the foundation and legacy continued is support for teachers across the district.  The KPSF’s Instructional Grants program, created in 1989, provides funds for instructional initiatives that may extend beyond the classroom to include professional development, personnel, materials, and equipment to further promote instruction in pre-K through 12th grades and aligns with the District’s Improvement Plan.  The number of grants awarded each year depend directly  upon available funds raised each year.  As a donor, you can guarantee that our teachers receive the tools they need to be successful.  2006-2007 application coming soon.  Visit grants site here.

In a time of financial uncertainty related to funding for public education, the commitment, belief, and vision of the KPSF becomes all too important.  But the Foundation’s unwavering support for our schools, staff, and children exemplify a “sky’s the limit” attitude that attracts the support from private foundations, supportive Kerrville businesses, KISD employees, and community members across the board.

Together, the KPSF and KISD soar to new heights in a mission not impossible, but one where dreams really do come true!
