KPSF Awards Scholarships

Two Tivy High School 2008 graduates have been chosen to receive college scholarships from the Kerrville Public School Foundation.   Each year the Foundation awards two scholarships of $1,000 each to Tivy graduates.

Carole Tucker, President of KPSF,  presented the Carolyn Dozier Hunnicutt Memorial Scholarship on May 19 during the Tivy High School annual awards ceremony to Christine Cabrera.   Christine, the daughter of Joe and Marie Cabrera, has been accepted to attend Baylor University, planning to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.   Her application states her goals are to make a difference in the world by helping others with the ultimate goal  to influence future generations. Hunnicutt was a former active board member of the Foundation and following her death, a scholarship was established by her family, awarded each year by the Foundation in her memory.

Tucker also awarded the KISD Employee Student Scholarship during the Tivy High School award ceremony, to Hanna Taylor, the daughter of  Rev. Joe and Brenda Taylor.  This scholarship was established by the Kerrville Public School Foundation to benefit a child of a KISD employee.   “We are “giving back” to our school district employees, who so faithfully work toward helping the children in our community.  We are honored to award this scholarship to Hanna, and we congratulate her!  She has been involved in extracurricular activities, community service, and has also received many honors and awards while at Tivy High School.  KISD employees donate to the Kerrville Public School Foundation through a payroll donation program.  It is from these funds that Hanna has received this scholarship,” said Barbara Johnston, executive director.     Hanna has been accepted to attend Baylor University this fall.

The foundation is committed to excellence for the children in Kerrville. They also award Advanced Placement Scholarships.   If you would like to honor and celebrate the educators and children in Kerrville schools, the Kerrville Public School Foundation is here for you.  Contact Barbara Johnston, Executive Director to become involved or to donate: email: kpsf@windstream.net,  phone: 257-9282 or visit our website at www.kerrvilleisd.net/foundation.
