Statistics
alone cannot communicate the spirit and climate of a school.
Across the grade levels, the Daniels’ instructional program focuses on
integrated instruction.
Implementation of Character Counts character education program has enhanced the school climate and increased understanding, caring, and concern among students. Focusing on respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, caring, fairness, and citizenship, Character Counts serves as an adjunct to the school’s discipline management program. “Pride” folders, a student behavior report to parents, are sent to parents weekly.
LEARNING STANDARDS FOR TEXAS CHILDREN
Every day our world becomes more complex and demanding. To succeed beyond high school, students must be better prepared than at any time in the history of our state. Expectations for students and schools are higher than they have ever been.
To meet these expectations, the State Board of Education has adopted a curriculum for all Texas schools--the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). These learning standards will help ensure that all students meet the challenges ahead of us as we move into the next century.
Each student must become a more effective reader.
Each student will have to know and apply more complex mathematics.
Each student needs to develop a stronger understanding of science concepts, especially in biology, chemistry, and physics.
Each student must master social skills and content necessary to be a responsible adult citizen.
Each student must master a wider range of technology.
The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills identify what Texas students should know and be able to do at every grade level.
HEALTH EDUCATION CURRICULUM (Grade K-12)
The Kerrville ISD Human Sexuality Curriculum is based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, which has been adopted by the Texas Education Agency for all Texas public schools. The KISD curriculum has been implemented for several years, per State requirement. The curriculum has been approved by the Kerrville ISD Board of Trustees upon the advice of the KISD School Health Advisory Council, comprised of local teachers, parents, and community representatives. Parents are always welcome to preview the curriculum materials at any time and have the right to remove their child from any part of the instruction. If you are interested in previewing the curriculum, contact the school counselor.
